The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
With GLADIATOR II, WICKED, and MOANA 2 having graduated off the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart, the next wave of heavy hitters will come from the end-of-year holiday season.
At the moment, however, all the December releases are stuck at 1% or 2%—at least the ones that have registered enough unaided to qualify for the chart. MUFAFA: THE LION KING has bounced back and forth between 1% and 2%, never quite getting as high as 3%. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 has reached 3% on several occasions but slips back down to 2% this week.
The most welcome surprise has to be NOSFERATU, which has come oh so close to reaching 1% for several weeks in a row but finally crossed that threshold this week. Interestingly, overall awareness for NOSFERATU is quite low at 19%, which suggests that there is a passionate group of people who know about the film, but that fandom is not especially widespread. That’s not necessarily a bad position to be in. Any unaided above 1% more than six weeks out is a good sign. The challenge now is expanding the audience by raising overall awareness.
Elsewhere, VENOM: THE LAST DANCE ended its run at 11%, while CONCLAVE opened with 2% unaided. Along with NOSFERATU, THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER also reached 1% for the first time this week.
