The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
As expected, Disney had a good week thanks to the studio’s D23 Expo, which wrapped on August 11th. For those who favor sequels, this announcement INCREDIBLES 3, a live-action LILO & STITCH, FROZEN 3, and ZOOTOPIA 2 likely made your day. Beyond the announcements, Disney gave us another trailer for MOANA 2 and MUFASA: THE LION KING and a first look at SNOW WHITE. It’s not surprising to see that all three saw big gains on the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart.
We’ve known for some time that MOANA looks strong. It has appeared on this chart for 15 weeks in a row, though a jump from 3% to 8% is quite remarkable. Its previous high was 4% in early July.
Unlike MOANA, MUFASA has struggled to reach 1% unaided. It last did so in May. That’s why it’s nice to see it back at 2% unaided. Hopefully, this will be the first week of an extended run on the chart.
Then there’s SNOW WHITE. The Quorum removed the film from tracking in September of last year, when its release date was pushed to March 2025. In its return, it ranks among the top 10 in awareness among all the films being tracked by The Quorum. Interest in the movie is slightly lower. It ranks among the top 20 in that metric. The strong 2% unaided awareness mirrors the strength in overall awareness. Stay tuned next week, where we’ll earn if SNOW WHITE can stay on the chart for a second week or if it’s a one-week wonder.
Elsewhere, BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE scored the highest unaided of the week at 10%, up from 7% a week ago. And ALIEN: ROMULUS arrived in theaters with 5% unaided.
