The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
It was a quiet week on the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart with WICKED and GLADIATOR II graduating out of consideration. That means only three films more than six weeks away from release are registering unaided above 1%.
Perhaps then, this is an opportune time to highlight films that once appeared on the chart but have since fallen off. All these are registering some level of unaided, just not enough to crack 1%. KRAVEN THE HUNTER appeared for one week in late August, then quickly disappeared. Lately, however, KRAVEN has picked up some steam. It could re-appear next week. A MINECRAFT MOVIE had a three-week run in September and is now spending its second week off the chart. In both weeks, it just barely missed the 1% mark.
Most surprising, however, is CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD, which spent four non-consecutive weeks on the chart but none since late August. Most confounding is that it hasn’t come close to 1% since it last appeared.
On the flip side, a few films are bubbling under and could debut in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for NOSFERATU. Unaided keeps growing for this one, and it’s getting closer and closer to reaching 1%.
Elsewhere, MOANA 2, which retires from the chart after this week, had the highest unaided of all films being tracked at 6%. TERRIFIER 3 arrived in theaters with 4% unaided, while PIECE BY PIECE registered 1% each. THE APPRENTICE couldn’t reach 1%.
