The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
Our apologies to THUNDERBOLTS*, which we dinged for dropping off the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart last week. This week, it makes a valiant return at 1%. It could be that this one bob and weaves above and below that 1% line until it gets closer to release.
Meanwhile, perhaps it’s time for us to acknowledge A MINECRAFT MOVIE now that it is in its sixth consecutive week on the chart and its fourth at 2%. Not everyone has been on board with this film, but there’s no denying that it is resonating with some people. It may not matter what critics think; it’s the general public that buys tickets.
Elsewhere, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 and MUFASA: THE LION KING ended their runs at 11% and 10% respectively. And THE WOLF MAN registered 1% unaided for the first time this week. Could this be the breakout film in what looks like a quiet January?
