Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart – RED ONE Returns. But Where Is Thunderbolts*?

The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.

Last week, we noted that GLADIATOR II surged to a new high of 3% unaided. This week, it went one notch higher to 4%. It is now tied with release-date-mate WICKED, which slips from 5% to 4%. It’s hard to say which film has the edge on this very competitive weekend.

The biggest surprise, however, is a film that doesn’t appear on the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart. At The Quorum, we expected THUNDERBOLTS* to debut on the chart on the heels of Disney releasing a trailer over a week ago. However, the film still failed to cross the 1% threshold. If it couldn’t do it this week, will it be able to do so next week?

Meanwhile, RED ONE only makes its second appearance on the chart after spending a week on it in July. The film got in just under the wire. At seven weeks out, RED ONE graduates from the chart next week.

Elsewhere, JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX topped the chart for the third week, climbing from 7% to 10%. On this metric alone, 10% a week before release translates to a $50M—$70M opening. Also, THE WILD ROBOT arrived in theaters with a very healthy 4% unaided.
