The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
With all of the year-end holiday films within six weeks of release, only 2025 films now qualify for the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart. As you can see below, the first half of 2025 looks rather quiet—only CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD and A MINECRAFT MOVIE register at least 1% unaided.
We were surprised that MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING didn’t crack 1% this week. Though, it got very close. In fact, if just one more survey respondent had mentioned MISSION in our survey, it would have made the chart below.
MISSION, which should benefit from playing in front of GLADIATOR II this weekend, is likely to chart next week. If not, it may find itself in the same spot as THUNDERBOLTS*, another high-profile summer release that failed to reach 1% unaided in the wake of its trailer release.
While there is little unaided for the 2025 releases, there’s quite a bit to go around for the end-of-year films. WICKED arrives in theaters with 17% unaided, the highest of any film. And GLADIATOR II lands with 11%. LORD OF THE RINGS: THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM crosses the 1% mark for the first time this week.
