The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
Last week, we lamented how only four films appeared on the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart. Things are looking much better this week, with seven films making the chart despite one of the four films from last week, RED ONE, dropping off.
As expected, GLADIATOR II returns to the chart thanks to the arrival of the new trailer. Though, at 1% unaided, the film made a somewhat muted return. Elsewhere, three films return to the chart. JOKER FOLIE A DUEX came roaring back with 2% despite not appearing a week ago. WICKED is back after a two-week absence.
Of particular note is the return of SMILE 2. Two weeks ago, the film debuted on the chart on the heels of its first trailer. As commonly happens, it fell below 1% the following week. It’s especially encouraging to see SMILE 2 return, which suggests that the trailer was effective in creating prolonged awareness.
Look for CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD to debut on the chart next week. We’ll also see if GLADIATOR can stay on for two weeks in a row despite having only 1% unaided this week.
Elsewhere, DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE is the top film for the fourth week in a row. Despite climbing from 10% to 12%, D&W has been stuck in the 10% to 12% range for a month now. Where is the acceleration? For that reason, The Quorum has downgraded the film’s opening weekend projection. Also of note, LONGLEGS registered 3% unaided, which is more than MAXXXINE, IMMACULATE, and TALK TO ME.
