The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
This week, we are happy to introduce a new section for films Bubbling Under. These titles are more than six weeks away from release and have at least 0.75% unaided, but not quite enough to cross the 1% required to make the main chart. You’ll notice that it includes 28 YEARS LATER and THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS – films that once made the Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart but have since slipped below 15. Also of note is SINNERS, which fell just shy of 1% but looks like a lock to reach the main chart next week, thanks to a new trailer and poster.
For the second week in a row, there is little movement. The only change is LILO & STITCH climbing from 1% to 2%. This may be true again next week, though look for lots of movement in two weeks after the typical Super Bowl trailer blitz.
This is also the final week for SNOW WHITE, which ends its run at 3%. That is just below the 4% for THE LITTLE MERMAID before it entered the six-week window and ahead of MUFASA: THE LION KING, which was at 2%.
Elsewhere, CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD is at the top again, though it is stuck at 12% for a second week resulting in a slight downgrade to The Quorum’s CAPTAIN forecast. DOG MAN arrived in theaters at 5%, COMPANION reached 2% unaided, and MICKEY 17 reached 1% for the first time.
