UPDATE: With HALLOWEEN ENDS going day-and-date, Universal remains the last studio in the hybrid space

That’s one film down.

Earlier this month, we noted that 2022 will most certainly tie the record for the most $100M openings in a single year if BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER and AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER both debut above the century mark.

We also pointed out that there was an outside chance that 2022 could break the record if either HALLOWEEN ENDS or BLACK ADAM over-performed. Sadly, it now appears that HALLOWEEN is out of the running.

That’s because Universal has made the inexplicable decision to release the film day-and-date on Peacock, just like they did for HALLOWEEN KILLS last year. The big difference, of course, is that last year we were deeper in the throes of the pandemic.

With MARRY ME, FIRESTARTER, the upcoming HONK FOR JESUS, SAVE YOUR SOUL, and now HALLOWEEN ENDS, Universal is the only studio still playing with hybrid releases.
