Next June, we will get the seventh film in the TRANSFORMERS series (if you include BUMBLEBEE), and today we welcome TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS to The Quorum.
The series reached its peak with the third film in the series. That one, DARK OF THE MOON, made over $1.1B worldwide. Since then, it’s been diminishing returns. Setting aside the smaller spinoff BUMBLEBEE, THE LAST KNIGHT from 2017 made only $600M worldwide. Perhaps “only” is the wrong word. $600M is a big number, but when you’ve got a $200M+ budget and the previous film in the series made over $1B, $600M is a disappointment.
Can RISE OF THE BEASTS turn things around? That remains to be seen, but as of now, BEASTS enters The Quorum with an awareness of 27. That places it 7th among the eight tentpoles we’re currently tracking.
On the interest side, it has a 5.0, which ranks last among the tentpoles.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. The film is a year from release. Of course, these numbers are low. Note, however, that JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION opens the same month next year and it has significantly higher scores. So, it’s not a terrific start for BEASTS.
