New to The Quorum: MEN

There has been a flurry of new trailers this week. JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION grabbed headlines thanks to the return of Sam Niell, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. Netflix gave us the first trailer for THE ADAM PROJECT, which reunites Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds on the heels of their FREE GUY success. And, today, Warner Bros. gave us a sneak peek at their four upcoming DC films.

But for our money, it was the newly released teaser trailer for Alex Garland’s MEN that has stayed with us the longest.

Garland arrived as a director with EX MACHINA in 2014, a landmark film in the sci-fi canon that earned Garland an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay.

Four years later, he followed that up with ANNIHILATION, a film that was robbed of any number of technical nominations, especially visual effects. Like EX MACHINA, ANNIHILATION is a feast for the eyes.

Like clockwork, Garland returns four years later with MEN, his follow up to ANNIHILATION. While there is some kind of cat-and-mouse thing happening with a ghost, spirit or stalker, it’s not entirely clear what the film is about, or how it got it’s broad but beguilling title.

What is clear, is that, oddly, a tree dropping dozens of apples in slow-motion is far more terrifying than a pack or velociraptors charging through the tundra. So, to MEN, which stars Jessie Buckley on the heels of her first ever Academy Award nomination (THE LOST DAUGHTER), we say welcome to The Quorum.
