By now I think everyone knows that yesterday Sony dropped the first trailer for SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. Of course, we will report back next week in our Trailer Callback, but already it seems to be having an impact.
Awareness for SPIDER-MAN jumped four points today from 42 to 46. It now ranks third among upcoming releases behind AVATAR 2 and VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE.
VENOM did even better. It just had a five-point gain in awareness, lifting it from 42 to 47.
One of these two films will dislodge AVATAR for the top spot. The race is on to see which one it will be.
Things look good for both on the interest side. SPIDER-MAN is one of the few films with an interest score above 6.0. Today it leap-frogged over JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION to land at #3.
VENOM may have the edge in awareness, but it trails SPIDER-MAN in interest. Still, it climbed three spots today to land at #9 with a score of 5.7.
These are clearly, and not surprisingly, the two big Q4 films for 2021. With Cinemacon and, in the case of SPIDER-MAN, a new trailer, this could be the beginning of an upswing for both films.
