If there’s one thing we know, it’s the Pixar sequel perform better than their originals. And while LIGHTYEAR isn’t exactly a sequel, it is based on a very well-known character from the TOY STORY films.
Over the past ten years, Pixar sequels have grossed 70% more than originals, yet it’s been a while since we’ve had a sequel. The last one, TOY STORY 4, came out in 2019. By the time LIGHTYEAR arrives in June of next year, it will have been a big three-year gap. In fact, PIXAR has been on a rather extended run of originals that included ONWARD, SOUL, LUCA, and the upcoming TURNING RED.
Given the history, we would expect LIGHTYEAR to be a strong performer for Pixar. Based o the first round of fielding, it may not disappoint. Out of the gate, it has an awareness of 36, which is second among animated films behind only HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA: TRANSFORMIA.
How high will it go? That remains to be seen, but for now we say to LIGHTYEAR, welcome to The Quorum.
