Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart – Finally some good news for FURIOSA

The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.

It was a bit of a bloodbath this week, with five films slipping below 1% unaided and sliding off the chart. After a brief one-week stay, THE FALL GUY falls off. This is not an especially good sign for a film with a reported budget of $125M and is only eight weeks from release.

More surprising is the departure of several unaided regulars. KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES has appeared on this chart since the middle of January, reaching a high of 5% on the heels of the Super Bowl. This week, it fell below 1%. The Thanksgiving power duo of MOANA 2 and WICKED PART 1 fell off after spending the past three weeks on the chart. And this is the first time JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX has failed to register 1% since the week of January 4th.

On the plus side, FURIOSA is finally showing signs of life. Tracking for the film has been unusually soft, but perhaps this week is an inflection point. The FURY ROAD sequel arrives with 2% unaided, most likely due to trailer placement before DUNE: PART TWO. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of an extended run for the film.

KUNG FU PANDA 4 scored the highest unaided of the week at 8%. That is higher than the opening weekend unaided for other family films, including THE HAUNTED MANSION, TROLLS BAND TOGETHER, and WISH, which all registered 6% on the day of release.
