The Weekly Unaided Awareness Chart includes any film more than six weeks from release, registering at least 1% unaided awareness (UA). This metric is highly correlated to opening weekend gross. Early signs of UA more than six weeks out often translate to box office success upon release.
DUNE: PART TWO continues to lead all films with 7% unaided awareness. This week, KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and BAD BOYS 4 failed to register 1%, so they slipped off the chart.
GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE reaches 3% unaided for the first time, while IF returns to the list for the first time in three weeks. But the big news is the debut of DESPICABLE ME 4. We frequently see a film register unaided the week after a trailer drops. That’s true for DESPICABLE. What we rarely see is a film debut on the unaided chart at 2%.
With DESPICABLE ME 4 and INSIDE OUT 2 already registering unaided, it further confirms that 2024 may be the year of animation.
